RULES OF PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE

15. NOTARIES PUBLIC
15.01 Application
An applicant for an Ohio Notary Public Commission must be a resident of or regularly employed in Summit County and shall file the application for new or renewal commission with the Akron Bar Association. The applicant may obtain the Certificate of Qualifications as required by R.C. 147.02 from a judge of the Summit County Common Pleas Court
15.02 Examination, Procedures, Fees
The examination of an applicant shall be administered by the Akron Bar Association or a designee thereof. The purpose of the application and examination is to determine whether the applicant possesses the qualifications necessary for the proper discharge of the duties of the office of Notary Public as set forth in R.C. 147.02. The Akron Bar Association shall set forth the procedures governing the application process and the fees charged in addition to the statutory fees
15.03 Committee Review
A committee established by the Akron Bar Association shall investigate the moral character, the qualifications and the ability to discharge the duties of the office of Notary Public of the applicant. The Akron Bar Association and its members assisting in the administration of these rules are entitled to immunity for all actions taken in good faith.
15.04 Complaint to Remove
Any complaint filed by the Akron Bar Association or committee seeking to have a Notary Public removed in accordance with R.C. 147.03 shall be heard by the Presiding Judge or designated judge.
